Wild Iris: How to Begin with Abstract Class Information

Class Description:
It is said that underneath every successful painting is a good abstract.  This lesson will prove the truth of that saying.  We will begin with an abstract underpinning for this semi abstracted floral.  Once we establish the abstract beginning, we will use negative painting techniques to create the finished painting.  Negative painting is essential to mastering watercolor techniques  and this is the perfect way to practice!

Materials List:

  • Watercolor paper with line drawing of iris on paper.  Note** Do a “stronger than usual “  or darker drawing for this piece. 
  • Watercolors in your favorite colors.  
  • Brushes
  • I will use a Hake,  round brush, and a rigger
  • Misting bottle
